Child Protection

In the areas hit with abject poverty, children are largely affected and generally exposed to abuse and hazards that could adversely affect their lives. Girls in particular are at a greater risk. In homes where a family shares a single grass-thatched room, there are challenges, especially for girls. When girls reach puberty, they are given out for marriage because of the discomfort of sharing a room with the father and brothers during menses. They can sometimes be married off to older men and their chance to live out their purpose (school) is cut off. Menstrual hygiene education is incorporated into this project.

In 2016 we identified some families in our community living in unprotected grass houses. They are spread over the country, but our hearts go to those in Muyinga and Kayanza provinces. BCOM has been building decent houses for very needy families to shelter them from the cold and the dangers posed by not having a place to call home. The organization has since built 10 homes and targets to build 50 homes in each province in 5 years (2019 to 2023).

Galatians 6:9 & Hebrews 6:10

We’ve identified a boy named Chadrack Dusenge who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphona, whom we were voluntarily taking care of in partnership with the association of Kenyans living in Burundi. He was undergoing cancer treatment in Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi in 2017 through our efforts to collect needed resources.
